Sometimes when you make changes in CAL Config after a workstation has already been CAL'd, it stops automatically starting the Simphony app. Follow these steps to get the app to start back up automatically 1) Open the Registry Editor on the workstation (search "regedit" in search bar) 2) Navigate to \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\MICROS\CAL\Config 3) Look at the line for "AutoStartApp" 4) If the "Data" column is blank, right click on the line and click "modify" 5) Type in "C:\Micros\Simphony\WebServer\ServiceHost.exe - A" and save 6) Reboot workstation and see if app starts automatically now If that doesn't work, check in Services on the workstation that "Oracle Hospitality Simphony" is set to start automatically.

There will be many times on your projects where you need help or are not exactly sure how to do something. Here are the steps you should take to find the answer. 1) Search the # fb-simphony channel in Slack. You can search for the channel in Slack and add yourself to it. You can then search within the channel for your answer. 📍 This channel includes product stakeholders, so avoid posting questions in there yourself unless you have exhausted all resources 2) Search the My Oracle Support (MOS) knowledge base. Login with your SSO, select your product and type the error you see or the problem your experiencing. 3) Search Confluence 🚩 In order to load confluence you must be logged into the Oracle VPN. You do not need your Oracle laptop to use the VPN... simply download it from Oracle External Tools. You will get a "Site can't be reached" error if you try to access it outside of the VPN. 4) Ask POSU members who also work with Simphony. Check the internal schedule to see who else has worked on Oracle projects. 📍 TIP: Your PMs are not technical people and will not be able to help you with hardware or configuration issues

1. Open file explore, go to C:\Program Files\Oracle Hospitality. RENAME your current EMC Client folder to a useful name for you (ie..MTU03, MTU5, or EMCHyatt, etc….) Example: 2. Go to Control Panel, Choose Programs/Features, and Uninstall EMC: 3. Download the EMC version you want from whatever URL (client specific/MTU01, MTU03, etc… /SimphonyApp), and install the version required. 4. After installing it, rename it to a meaningful name (same directory as in step #1). 5. After your versions are installed, navigate to the folder you want, then EMCClient, then launch EMC.exe within that folder.

The Check and Posting Service (CAPS) is a required service that runs on-premises at the property. CAPS acts as the bridge between the Enterprise and the property, providing resiliency and increasing system performance. As workstation operators perform transactions and other operations on POS clients, CAPS stores the information and then posts in real-time to the Enterprise. Each property must have CAPS configured because without it, information occurring on the POS clients does not post to the Enterprise. In the event of a WAN outage, POS clients are largely unaffected as they continue to post transactions to the on-premises CAPS. During a WAN outage, the Enterprise is inaccessible to the property; changes made in EMC are not reflected on POS clients, and Reporting and Analytics reports do not include the live transactions. Other systems and functions that rely on Enterprise connectivity are similarly impacted. When the WAN connection is restored, CAPS posts the information to the Enterprise. CAPS also serves as the arbitrator of check sharing by maintaining a record of check ownership. This minimizes the likelihood of multiple POS clients having conflicting versions of a check. Some properties perform a large volume of transactions that overwhelm the POS client workload. For these environments, it may be necessary to run CAPS on a PC with significantly more computing resources and disk space. The information in this chapter explains the variety of configuration methods for CAPS. https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E76065_01/doc.29/e69879/c_caps.htm#SIMCG-CAPS-3BCA17CB 📍 During the installation process, it's important that you install and CAL CAPS first! CAPS on a workstation For smaller hotels, CAPS will often sit on a workstation (terminal). However, certain chains may have CAPS sit on a PC for more RAM and power. If your CAPS sits on a workstation, you will find it under "Workstations" on the property level. ❔ How do I know which workstation is CAPS if it doesn't have "CAPS" in the name? Open up a workstation and click on the "Service Host" tab. Your CAPS workstation will have a "Check and Posting" Type that your other workstations will not have. ❔ How does the system know which terminal is CAPS? On the property level, click on "Property Parameters" then on the "Workstations" tab. The "Check and Posting" Type is what defines your CAPS. When doing an install involving a CAPS on a workstation, your CAL packages should contain at CAL client, Service Host Download, and Service Host. CAPS on a PC CAPS that sit on PCs can be programmed and CALed two different ways. The first way is to have CAPSonIIS. The difference with CAPSonIIS is that CAPSonIIS has no service host — it functions only as check and posting. Because of this, users are not able to open an app and ring things in like they would on a terminal. CAPSonIIS are programmed differently in EMC and have different CAL package deployments. Instead of finding your CAPS under "Workstations", your CAPSonIIS can be listed under "Service Hosts" at the Enterprise level. You can also have a CAPSonIIS under workstations by selecting the "Is Windows Service" checkbox. 📍 CAPSonIIS CAL package cannot not be downloaded with service host CAL package — you can have either or, but not both. If your not sure which way your CAPS should be configured, check with your PM.

You may need to reimage a workstation for a number of reasons, including: Locked out of windows (don't know user credentials) Locked out at startup (requested bit locker access key) Workstation does not have a desktop (no windows) If you are asked to reimage a workstation, you will be given a USB drive with a ghost file on it. Follow these steps (and whatever steps are provided to you). Plug USB keyboard and bootable flash drive into workstation Power on workstation and start tapping the F2 key to enter the BIOS In the BIOS, disable the option to "Authenticate User on Boot" and disable "TPM Support" under the "Security" menu. In the BIOS "boot" menu, select the USB as the primary boot source. Save the configuration and exit (F10) The workstation should come to the Windows PE environment and launch Ghost32.exe. Ghost may generate some "bad block errors" or "drive were not unmounted cleanly". Click past them and process. I will not affect the image process. Using Ghost, select "Local" --> "Disk" --> "From Image". Select D: DVD Rom from drop down and browse the launch Ghost 32.exe Select the workstation internal drive (#1) as destination. After the disk image is written, restart workstation and reenter the BIOS by tapping the F2 key. Select the internal workstation drive as primary boot device. Restart workstation to freshly installed base image. Connect with your PM or site about the correct windows user credentials. Open the command prompt as administrator and type netplwiz and hit enter In the windows that opens, uncheck the option that says "User must enter a username and password to use this computer Enter password from step 13 and click ok. Restart computer (note, if it asks you to login, you might have to complete this step again)

The table layout (or map) is what servers can use to quickly start a check by table number. They can also use it to see the status of a table (if TMS is enabled). Here are the steps to making a realistic layout of your site's tables. 1) Let's create our basic layout first. - Navigate to "Page Design" (under "Configuration") - Navigate to the page containing your table layout (or create one) - Select the "Other" dropdown menu next to "Button" - Under "Table Management" select "Dining Table (Enhanced)" - Move and resize the new table to it's accurate location - Give the table a table number and legend number (should be the same number) 2) Once you have all the basic tables laid out, we will give them a design icon to better represent the table type (round, square, two-top, six-top, etc.). To do this, we must first decide which images we will need. We will do this by creating Dining Table Classes. - At the Enterprise level, navigate to the "Setup" tab and select "Dining Table Class" under "Enterprise Configuration" - Click on "Insert" to create a new record. - Select the image you wish to use (ex. "7123 - Rec 6 Top") and give the record a new (ex. "Rec 6 Top) - Repeat these steps for all the table types you have 💡 Wondering what each image looks like? You can see see them on the "Content" page at the Enterprise level. 3) Now that we have our classes defined, we will attribute them to the appropriate tables - On the RVC level, navigate to the "Setup" tab and select "Tables" under "RVC Configuration" - Assign the correct class to each table number 4) Go to the terminal and update the database - You may need to do a reboot of the terminal or a "Reload WS Database (Long)" but this will take awhile, so be careful when you use it. 💡 Note: these changes will NOT show on page design... only the terminal. Page Design will continue showing you the ordinary blocks Learn any other tricks to making an impressive table layout? Share them below!
